CWS appointed Lead Partner to AVS under TNRM and Pet Cat Sterilisation Grants, 8 February 2025

CWS has been appointed the Lead Partner to AVS under AVS’
Trap-Neuter-Rehome/Release-Manage (TNRM) programme and Pet Cat Sterilisation Support (PCSS) programme.

CWS strongly believes that sterilisation is the most humane, efficient and effective way to control a cat population which in turn will ensure more resources for each cat.

CWS is happy to draw from its years of experience in operating and executing sterilisation the CWS Community Cat Sterilisation Programme (“CCSP”) and Pet Cat Sterilisation Programme (“PCSP”) and looks forward to collaborating with AVS and partner animal welfare groups to extend our collective reach to help more of our Singapore cats together.

History of CWS sterilisation programmes: https://www.catwelfare.org/sterilisation-overview/

Community Cat Sterilisation Programme

CWS has heavily dedicated resources into the Community Cat Sterilisation Programme by funding thousands of sterilisation procedures and ancillary support like trapping and boarding for community cats for some twenty years. Through this, we have seen impoundment / culling rates reduce and the burden of care placed on caregivers reduce.

Pet Cat Sterilisation Programme

In the course of its engagement and sterilisation work, CWS observed an upward trend in the number of families unable to afford the sterilisation of their pet cats. This was exacerbated by the COVID-19 period and circuit breaker months saw a spike in abandonment of cats.

To counter this, CWS introduced its early intervention Pet Cat Sterilisation Programme in November 2020 to quickly arrest the population growth within homes. This then reduced the risk of the animals being abandoned and even gave the families the opportunity to rehome their cats thereby reducing their resource constraints.

Since November 2020, CWS has helped sterilise and microchip approximately 8500 cats from close to 3500 applications from lower-income households.

CWS will draw from its extensive experience in helping sterilise and microchip thousands of cat each year in working with our fellow animal welfare groups and AVS to continue to help even more of our Singapore cats.
