CWS has continued its door-to-door engagement in 2024 channelling the cats that need help into both our Pet Cat Sterilisation Programme and AVS’ pilot Pet Cat Sterilisation Support (“PCSS”) programme.

The PCSS is a collaboration driven by AVS with CWS, SVA and Temasek Polytechnic to provide free sterilisation and microchipping for pet cats belonging to low-income households.
Every month CWS has been sterilising some 500 community cats and pet cats. This is to help lower income households arrest the population of cats within their homes and reduce the risk of the cats being subject to neglect or abandonment.
Our door-to-door engagement helps us identify families who need this help and in some cases, irresponsible families who refuse to adhere to responsible ownership guidelines like keeping ones cats strictly indoors and outdoors. These families contribute excessively to the negative feedback received about cats. The only way to curb this behaviour is to introduce clear regulations about what responsible cat ownership is, and a penalty framework for penalising irresponsible behaviour.
