Volunteers getting shaved for a cause… by a pet groomer

You have heard of people getting their heads shaved for a cause. But have they tried being shaved by a pet groomer at a pet grooming station?

Our volunteer Cheryl Cheah will do just that to raise funds for the Society’s Spay Day!

“Some friends were mentioning about shaving their heads for a cause on Facebook and I carelessly agreed when I was half asleep. There were many reasons to back out of it the next day but I thought, why not? People from around the world are already doing it for causes they believed in and I believe in the need to promote a humane, responsible and informed society where cats are cared for responsibly as pets and treated with kindness and respect as community cats. That reason alone is good enough to go hairless,” says Cheryl.

She is calling for others to join her for the shave… at a pet grooming station! Chan Chow Wah, 38, has taken up the challenge and will be joining her at the pet groomer's station.

Through the event, they hope to raise $10,000 for Spay Day. The head shaving event will be held on Sunday 6 May 3pm at the Pet Safari store at NEX at the same time as our cat adoption drive.

Corporate volunteers lend a hand for Spay Day

DEAL.com ran a fundraiser on their deal site in February and successfully raised $10,000 for the Society’s Spay Day. The Cat Welfare Society aims to raise another $10,000 to reach its goal.

For the first time this year, the Society will be holding two Spay Days instead of one and targets to sterilise 600 cats. The Society’s annual Spay Day in the past 6 years has seen growing public support. Last year, 396 were sterilised with the participation of 29 vet clinics around Singapore.

On 25 May 2012, staff from DEAL.com and Starbucks will volunteer to help the Cat Welfare Society on Spay Day. You can volunteer too! More on Spay Day 2012 at www.catwelfare.org/spayday2012-1.
