Almost 70% of our funds go to our sterilisation reimbursement scheme to encourage people to neuter the community cats as a humane way to control the population and reduce the need for culling.
More than 300 cats are sterilised every month through this scheme.
Every year, we also organise a Spay Day where sterilisations are free. In 2011, our Spay Day saw a record number of 396 cats sterilised. This would not have been possible if not for the generous donation from our corporate donors
We hope to increase the frequency of Spay Days to provide even more assistance to our caregivers.
Your contributions will go a long way to stop the tide of culling through trapping and neutering. The numbers are encouraging. In the 1990s, the average culling rate was 13,000 per year. This has steadily decreased to 8000 in 2009 through intensive sterilisation efforts to control the community cat population. We hope that at some point Singapore will reach a tipping point and we can see a exponential drop to this number. Putting the pedal on sterilisation is a means of achieving this goal.
